Nunzia and her hoop
When you first meet Nunzia it hits you immediately: she has that je ne sais quoi. She welcomes you into the wonderful shop with frescoed ceilings, the perfect setting for her classical studies and her ancient passion: embroidery.
But The Hoop is much more. It is an expression of Nunzia's gift, of her ability to give a new face to memories, to transform every day occasions into a special moment, to overcome the limits of shapes and materials with vivid imagination.
Today we are in Vallo and we decide to go and see her.
There is a wonderful sun, but the light breeze refreshes the square.
She shows us her latest work and, to make the most of this beautiful spring air, we take the opportunity to chat and stroll.
Her aptitude for innovation has its roots in a deep knowledge of the techniques, yarns and tools of the past. And in a visceral love for all that goes beyond the ordinary, for all that is unique.
We almost don't realize that we have arrived in the middle of the historic centre. "Welcome to MAF".
We are at the Museum of Female Arts, an evocative multisensory journey to discover the objects, sounds and creations of the past.
Nunzia bewitches us by talking about her travels in Europe, her collections of lace, tools and books (with extraordinary pieces starting from the early 1600s). She does it all in one breath. And we enjoy that story word for word, and are already looking at that little known world with new eyes.
There is a lot of love in there; there is dedication and patience; there are anecdotes, information ... literally, pieces of cloth that tell pieces of life.
